In Watamu, Kenya at Happy House Children’s Home, we have launched the My Little Zen Classroom – a calm, dedicated learning space designed to give children safe, meaningful access to digital tools and the wider world.
The classroom is equipped with 10 donated laptops and a Starlink satellite internet connection, providing reliable, high-speed connectivity in a place where access has often been limited or unpredictable. For many of the children, this is their first opportunity to use a computer in a supported, structured environment.
The aim of the classroom is not just to introduce technology, but to do so gently and intentionally. Children are supported to build confidence at their own pace, learning how to explore, create, and communicate in ways that feel empowering rather than overwhelming.
The My Little Zen Classroom is used for:
- Building basic digital literacy and confidence through Cisco courses
- Online teaching through volunteers
- Guided educational learning and research
- Online yoga access
- Safe, supervised exploration of the online world
Beyond skills, the classroom has become a place of pride and ownership. Children support one another, older learners naturally mentor younger ones, and confidence grows with each session. Caregivers have shared that children return from the classroom calmer, more focused, and eager to learn.
This space reflects what My Little Zen stands for – connection, creativity, and emotional safety – alongside practical preparation for the future.
By combining mindful approaches with reliable technology, the My Little Zen Classroom helps children at Happy House see beyond their immediate surroundings and imagine wider possibilities for themselves.
