The future lies in the convergence of humans and technology. Human skills remain core, and digital skills are now essential.
Once we have worked with local providers to install a reliable internet connection, and young people feel safe, confident, and connected through our weekly yoga sessions, we begin to focus on the skills that will shape their future.
Through our partnership with Cisco, My Little Zen is a Cisco Networking Academy, delivering digital skills training to young people in underserved communities.
Why Digital Skills Matter
As the world becomes increasingly digital, access to technology and skills is no longer optional, it determines opportunity.
Many of the young people we work with have never had access to a computer, and so have missed out on structured digital learning and guidance on how technology can open pathways to income and careers.
Our Cisco Networking Academy programme helps close that gap by offering accessible, practical, future-focused digital education.
Our greatest barrier is equipment. While we have internet connectivity in many communities, we do not yet have enough devices for every child to participate. Thanks to donated laptops and devices, some communities are already accessing Cisco courses online – proving what is possible when the right tools are available.
With more devices, we can expand this programme to many more communities
Brian grew up in a children’s home in Watamu, Kenya. When he turned 18, he reached the legal age where he had to leave the home and support himself independently – a moment that can be extremely challenging for young people.
Through My Little Zen’s digital skills programme, Brian learned HTML and basic web development through the Cisco Networking Academy. Using these skills, he launched his own web design business in Watamu.
Today, Brian works with local businesses and international clients, building websites and earning a sustainable income. His digital skills didn’t just give him a job, they gave him independence, confidence, and choice. He even has his own website in case you would like to contact him: https://webbybrian.com/
